A 404 page pops up when a visitor navigates to a URL in your website that does not exist. Add a word such as ‘not-found’ after your URL, and you’ll see what your 404 page looks like and whether you feel it needs changing. To easily customize your 404 page, you will need to use the Hooked Elements feature, which is part of the Kadence Pro.
Kadence Elements Hooks is a powerful feature that enables you to insert custom content, code, or design elements into specific areas of your website without directly modifying the theme files. We use it on some of our websites and find it to be an excellent feature from Kadence; once you’re familiar with it, you’ll find it very easy to work with.
Customizing Hooks For 404
To customize the hooked elements in Kadence, you will need to use the Kadence theme options or Kadence Blocks plugin settings. Here’s a general guide on how to customize the 404 elements:
Enabling Kadence Hooked Elements:
If you can’t see Appearance > Kadence > Elements, you may need to install or activate Kadence Pro. For instructions on installing plugins, check out our plugin knowledge base.

Access Kadence Hooked Elements:
To begin, go to your WordPress dashboard, navigate to Appearance > Kadence > Elements, and click “404 Not Found” to open the element.

When the 404 Not Found is open, you can customize the blocks, then click Save. To make additional changes in the customizer, such as the background color, go to Customizer > General > 404 Page Layout. Make your general layout and design changes, and click Publish.
Your Theme:
The standard Kadence is a very basic design that can be kept as is. However, we have created an alternative design for your theme that upgrades user experience without impacting SEO. The design can be changed however you want using the predesigned blocks in the Kadence Design Library.
The design doesn’t change Google’s header response code, isn’t indexable, and doesn’t negatively impact SEO or performance. Your server will still tell your browser that the page your reader was looking for doesn’t exist. It will also use the reader’s search and convert it into what they may have been looking for.
NOTE: If some of these options are unavailable, you most likely do not have the Kadence Pro installed.
