Surprise Me Link

Estimated reading: 2 minutes 80 views

To achieve this great option for you and your readers, we used the “Redirect URL to Post” plugin, which is currently free. It’s an excellent plugin for redirecting your readers to various types of posts, such as a random post, your first post, your latest post, the previous or next post, or more complex searches like the newest post by author ‘John Doe’ that is at least one month old.

Getting Started

To achieve this gem, we simply entered a URL in the menu, which takes your readers directly to a random single post.

The benefits of using this plugin is that it creates reader engagement, is great for SEO, and keeps readers on your websites.

You don’t have to worry about plugin parameters; we’ve set it all up in ours themes, and so ready to go! However, just in case the plugin didn’t upload with your demo or the link didn’t load, here is the setup process:

  • Upload the Redirect URL to Post plugin via the Dashboard > Plugins.
  • Activate it.
  • Go to your menu settings Appearance > Menu.
  • Set up a Primary Menu – check out Customizing Delicious Menus and Setting Up Different Menus for more information.
  • Choose Custom Link to set it up.
  • In the URL, add https://yourdomian?redirect_to=random
  • In the Navigation Label, add SURPRISE ME.
  • Click Add To Menu.
  • Drag the menu label where you want, then Save.
  • Cache your website.
  • Check your link for random posts.

NOTE: For caching, we suggest using LiteSpeed Caching, which is free forever and should be used if your server uses it. If your server doesn’t use LiteSpeed, an alternative is to use FlyingPress. Unfortunately, there is no free version, but it is worth every penny.
